Job advertisement for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA)

Background and Context:

Join the innovative Translational Diabetes Research Lab at the Biomedical Institute for Multimorbidity (BIM) based at Hull York Medical School (HYMS), University of Hull. Led by Dr. Amin Ardestani, the lab is at the forefront of groundbreaking discoveries in pancreatic islet biology, with a focus on both normal physiology and diabetes. Our research aims to target intricate intracellular signaling networks within pancreatic β-cells to enhance their regenerative capabilities, paving the way for novel diabetes treatments.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

We are seeking an exceptional Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) to contribute to a funded project investigating the mechanisms of islet autoimmunity and β-cell destruction in type 1 diabetes. This role involves unraveling signaling pathways and regulatory mechanisms underlying the transcriptional machinery in β-cells, with the goal of identifying therapeutic targets to mitigate immune-mediated destruction and preserve β-cell function.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Required:

PhD in molecular/cellular biology or related field
Proficiency in genetic engineering techniques (e.g., Crispr/Cas9) in cell lines and primary cells
Expertise in immunostaining methods (e.g., immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence)
Advanced imaging abilities
Familiarity with molecular and biochemical biology techniques (e.g., PCR, qPCR, cloning, Western blotting)
Experience in supervising undergraduate and PhD students
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
Proficiency in data analysis techniques and statistical design
Record of primary research publications

For formal inquiries about the role, please contact Dr. Amin Ardestani at Amin.Ardestani@hyms.ac.uk.

Any informal enquiries about the position, please contact Niamh on Niamh.Hildyard@hull.ac.uk
