Description :
The Department of Biomechanical Engineering at Delft University of Technology is seeking to appoint a PhD student for four years to perform research within the "Stiffness as Needed" project of the STW perspective programme NeuroCIMT. NeuroCIMT (http://www.neurocimt.nl) creates an enabling technology platform for systems that integrate precision diagnostics with individualized treatment in patients with neurological diseases and sensory impairments. Eight interrelated projects add to the core of NeuroCIMT in developing advanced neurostimulation technology (cochlear implants, pain diagnosis and motor relearning), real-time biofeedback technology (for reducing spasticity, controlling blood pressure and improving daily activities), and assistive devices (to compensate for spasticity and contractures).

As a PhD student you will oversee the design and development of a new revolutionary orthosis and provide scientific foundations and constraints to this development. You will develop and evaluate the orthosis in collaboration with the Leiden University Medical Centre and our industrial partners. Your duties will be diverse, ranging from design and experiments on motor control, to gait analysis in patients, writing scientific papers and presenting your work at international conferences.
