The Faculty of Medicine in Southampton is looking for an enthusiastic individual with extensive experience of writing OSCE stations for candidates at undergraduate Year 3 level to take on this part-time role in the assessment team. This post will be supported by the Director of Undergraduate (UG) Assessments, the BM Year 3 Lead and the administrative staff in the Faculty’s Exams and Assessments team based at Southampton General Hospital. The post holder would be expected to draw widely on the experience and assistance of clinical staff to develop new stations which would reflect the breadth of the clinical curriculum. 

This is a University of Southampton post but may be available on a secondment basis.

BM Year 3 OSCE Lead (0.1 FTE) 

In the new BM curriculum the Year 3 exams will take place in July of Year 3 (or Year 2 in the case of BM4 students) with a supplementary opportunity in late August. If passed students are able to progress directly to Year 4. A component of the Year 3 examination is the OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination). This consists of a 16 x 8 minute station examination with all students completing all stations currently over two days. 

This post holder will be responsible for designing and implementing the Year 3 OSCE examination with support from clinical staff in Year 3. They will also work with the joint BM Finals Clinical Assessment and MIP2 OSCE leads to contribute to the design and implementation of the Year 5 and MIP2 OSCEs respectively. 

The post holder will be supported in this role by the Director of UG Assessments, the Year 3 Lead and the clinical module leads from Year 3. The post holder will receive administrative support from the Exams and Assessments team and will be expected to draw widely on the experience and assistance of clinical staff to develop new OSCE stations that reflect the breadth of the clinical curriculum in Year 3. 

It is anticipated that the post holder should be able to fulfil their role in the equivalent of 1 half day a week although this will need to be flexible at different times of the academic year. In particular the post holder will need to ensure that they are available before and after the Year 3 main and supplementary OSCE.
