We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to join the Emotional support around Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis research project. This is an MS Society funded project that aims to develop an intervention to support individuals around the point of Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis. This post will be based at the Division of Psychiatry & Applied Psychology, University of Nottingham, where the successful candidate will have access to a range of research expertise and facilities.

The post-holder will be involved with the intervention development phase of the project, which includes conducting systematic reviews, and focus group discussions with different stakeholders. The post-holder will support the project manager in conducting two systematic reviews by carrying out systematic literature and database searches, undertaking critical appraisal and extracting data. The post-holder is also expected to recruit participants for the focus group study, and co-facilitate the focus group discussions. The post-holder will work closely with the Project Manager to help analyse data, and develop the ‘intervention programme’. The post-holder will also offer administrative support for the lead investigator.

Candidates must have (or be in the process of completing) an MSc degree in a relevant area and an understanding of the principles of systematic reviewing and qualitative methodologies, as well as excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to work well and communicate within a team are essential. Broader experience of working with people living with multiple sclerosis will be an advantage. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate personal enthusiasm and commitment to the subject area.

The post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 12 months on a part-time basis, and will be available from 1st May 2017.
