This research technician position is to work within the Insect and Pathogen Ecology Group at the Lancaster Environment Centre, reporting to Professor Kenneth Wilson.

Your duties will include the following: maintaining healthy and viable stocks of insects, plants and microbes; conducting baculovirus bioassays using moth larvae; conducting UV-exposure assays; ordering chemical and other stocks; collecting and collating research data; helping to draft internal reports and contribute to project meetings; liaising with other project personnel and related staff to coordinate research activities; maintaining the laboratory in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with local and national Health and Safety rules.

You will have an educational background and work experience in the biological sciences with particular emphasis in the areas of entomology and microbial ecology, with molecular skills an advantage. As part of a team, you may be required, on occasion, to work outside of normal working hours.

For the first 8 months, you will work in collaboration with staff at the University of Greenwich and Exosect Ltd., as part of an ongoing  Agri-Tech Catalyst Award “A Novel Biopesticide Formulation Technology for Major Lepidopteran Crop Pests”.  For the remaining 6 months, you will conduct related activities as part of a project funded by Lancaster University.

This post is for a maximum of 14 months, starting as soon as possible after May 1st 2017.
