Applications are invited for a Research Fellow in the Cyber Security Research Group and Computer Science at the University of Southampton, to work on a project entitled “VAC+: Verifier of Access Control”. This is a one-year grant, funded by EPSRC. The project has a particular emphasis on the development of automated verification techniques and tools for access control that enable detection of security breaches in a systematic and symbolic way.

The successful candidate will undertake work covering the enhancement and application of the VAC framework to handle a larger class of access control models. This involves further development of the VAC framework including tool specification, design, implementation, testing, and review.

Candidates should possess a *PhD in software engineering, computer science, or a closely related discipline, a strong background in the analysis and verification of systems, including a good general knowledge of the security of access control systems and strong programming and software engineering skills.

The candidate must have excellent communication skills and be able to organise his/her own work with minimal supervision and prioritise work to meet deadlines. Preference will be given to applicants with a proven research record and publications in the relevant areas.

* Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded, the title of Senior Research Assistant will be assigned.
