The successful applicant will have a notable international reputation, an outstanding publication record related to one or more of these areas, and a commitment to working collaboratively within a team environment.

The University of Bath’s Department for Health is a leading Department for Sport, Health and Exercise Science and related Allied Health disciplines. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework exercise (REF2014), we returned staff across three Units of Assessment, ranking 5th (Sport & Exercise Science), 6th (Allied Health Professions) and 6th (Social Policy) in terms of research quality, with ~90% of our outputs rated as world-leading or internationally excellent (i.e. 3-4*). In the most recent University League Tables for Sports Science, the Department was ranked 3rd in the 2018 Complete University Guide and 3rd in the 2017 Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide.

Our research activity is supported and coordinated across three interdisciplinary themes: Improving Human Function; Lifelong Health and Wellbeing and; A Fair and Vibrant Society. Through these themes, we support and encourage interaction between academics, postdoctoral researchers, practitioners and doctoral students. We also engage external speakers in our Department-wide seminar series.

While committing to maintain our reputation as an inclusive, friendly and collegiate team, the Department has been engaged in an ambitious strategic growth and development plan over the last 5-years. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to our range of highly rated undergraduate and postgraduate offerings, including our established BSc/MSci (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science programme and our recently launched BSc/MSci (Hons) Health and Exercise Science programme. We also deliver an applied physiology and anatomy strand for the BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences programme and two well established postgraduate distance/blended learning programmes (MSc Sport and Exercise Medicine and MSc Sports Physiotherapy). We are soon to launch a new MSc in Public Health Sciences. All of our programmes are extremely popular and oversubscribed, allowing us to make a number of key strategic appointments.
