The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Bath is internationally recognised as a leading centre for research and teaching in the built environment. The Department came joint top in the Architecture, Built Environment and Planning unit of assessment in the 2014 REF and we are consistently at the top of the league tables (First for Architecture and Third for Civil Engineering, 2017 Complete University Guide).

Due to continued growth and investment we wish to appoint an outstanding and inspirational Professor of Civil Engineering. The successful candidate will have a strong international reputation in one of the following fields of civil engineering:

·         Innovative construction materials

·         Advanced computational design

·         Building environmental design

·         Sustainable construction

A passion for creative engineering design and integrated/collaborative working is essential.Some experience of practical engineering design would be an advantage.

You will have a proven track record in innovative, high impact research that has demonstrably influenced civil engineering practice. You are expected to have a strong history of publishing high-quality journal articles, attracting significant research funding and supervising PhD students through to completion. Experience and capability of running large international collaborative projects would be beneficial.

You will be expected to attract external funding to carry out internationally recognised research, collaborating with industry and researchers within and without the University, enabling the research team’s ambitions to be realised. You will be expected to contribute to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You should therefore be able to demonstrate a commitment to maintaining the Faculty’s high standards in teaching and learning with the ability to educate and inspire some of the brightest students in the country. 

It is expected that the successful candidate will undertake senior management and leadership duties as required. A track record of academic leadership roles would therefore be beneficial. Professional status through the IStructE, ICE or equivalent is essential.
