The Faculty of Engineering is a large, multi-site organisation with approximately 4,000 students and more than 600 staff in Nottingham and almost all its programmes mirrored at both the Malaysia and China campuses.  To underpin the Faculty’s teaching and learning activities, the administration team provides a comprehensive faculty-wide structure of support to both staff and students.

Applications are invited for the above post to work in the Faculty of Engineering on the University Park campus. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to provide personal assistant support to the Head of Department and administrative support for teaching and learning activities in the department. This post is the primary departmental contact for staff enquiries ensuring these are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner, and that departments are making best use of support provided by Student Services and in Faculty support teams. On behalf of the Head of Department, this post follows up key actions agreed at department management meetings and acts as a conduit for information both to and from the department ensuring key Faculty Implementation Plan targets are met.

Key aspects of the role include:

Responsibility for running the Head of Department’s Office ensuring administrative needs are met to a consistently high standard. Executive Support for Departmental Teaching & Learning Activity.The role holder will be the primary contact for academic staff within the Department, holding detailed knowledge specific to the Department whilst also having an extensive understanding of the Faculty & University teaching and learning activity. The role holder is instrumental to successful departmental operations, ensuring issues are dealt with effectively and swiftly, with the role holder monitoring progress on issues and following up as necessary using their specialist knowledge. Contribute to the successful implementation of key teaching & learning processes across the Faculty ensuring their home Department needs are identified and addressed in line with Faculty policy.

Candidates should hold 5 GCSEs at level C or above or vocational qualifications (NVQ 2-3, C&G, BTEC in Business or Administration) or equivalent, and have some relevant experience in a similar or related role, or a proven track record of relevant work experience. 

A flexible approach, excellent customer service skills, excellent IT skills and an ability to manage day to day activities independently are all essential to the role.  Training will be provided where required.

A 12 month fixed term, full time contract or internal secondment opportunity.
