Description :

Sustainability has become a key element in design, construction and maintenance of building and infrastructures and will grow more important over next decades. Therefore, we want to strengthen our team in this domain, and invite applications for an assistant professorship on Sustainability in Civil Engineering. In particular, we look for expertise in the design, construction, retrofit, and preservation of civil infrastructural systems and their interactions with the environment. Key ingredients in this respect are energy and CO2 saving, smart and sustainable materials; life cycle assessments; sensing and monitoring technologies; intelligent and automated systems for the design and construction of durable, adaptable, reusable and recyclable civil engineering systems.

Teaching
As the new assistant professor you will take part in the teaching tasks of our group. You will be leading and responsible for: the sustainability content of the BSc Civil Engineering program, a profile course in the MSc Construction Management & Engineering program and supervision of BSc- MSc-projects. The teaching load will be about 50%. If you are not yet formally qualified for teaching at universities, we offer a program to obtain this qualification within 2 years (University Teaching Qualification, UTQ).

Research
The transition to a circular and energy sustainable infrastructure requires extending research in the field of sustainable energy and circularity. We expect you to be an independent researcher able to identify the academic questions related to challenges in society with respect to the impact of climate change, urbanisation, energy transformation and increased mobility. You are expected and supported to publish in high quality international refereed journals, and to attract external funding for junior researchers (PDEng, PhD and PD positions), of whom you will of course be the daily supervisor. Courses and mentorship will be provided to further develop your research and academic leadership skills.

Start: a.s.a.p. after October 1st 2017.
