We are looking for an exceptional and highly motivated individual to take up an exciting opportunity with the Centre for Research in Nursing and Midwifery Education.

Applications are invited for a 3 year PhD studentship funded by the Centre for Research in Nursing and Midwifery Education within the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences at the University of Surrey, through an endowment from the General Nursing Council for England & Wales Trust.  We regret that funding is only available for home student fees. 

We are seeking applicants to develop a fully referenced PhD proposal, the aims of which will be a) to develop and integrate an explicit communication framework for enhanced skills in professional nursing and midwifery preparation programmes to promote self-care amongst people with long-term conditions and b) to evaluate the effects of this explicit communication framework on students’ communication skills and competencies, confidence and resilience in professional preparation programmes in nursing and midwifery. The proposal should contain a section that provides a rationale for these aims drawing on existing research literature. It should also briefly detail the proposed methodology for the study (design, methods, sampling and analysis).

Funding information:

The post would be offered for full time registration for PhD. The funding will include the tax-free stipend of £16,000.00, tuition fees and £500 funding for conference attendances per year.  Support would be provided for applying for funding for training, conferences and travel through external agencies.

Applicant criteria:

Applicants must have a BSc with First-class honours or MSc (health related) and health care related experience.
