The project will investigate novel Ca2+ channels and intracellular Ca2+ signalling in the regulation of cell function and the development of diabetic complications (J Mol Med 2015;93:511-21). The post holder will involve chemical synthesis and high-throughput screening of compounds, and carry out original research into understanding new ion channel biomarkers, pathophysiological mechanisms, and therapeutic targets of diabetic kidney disease. The post will be based in the research group of Dr Sam Xu and the project is funded by European Commission as a part of Horizon 2020 program.

Other information

The Hull York Medical School (HYMS) brings together the strengths of the Universities of Hull and York in life, clinical, health and social sciences in partnership with the NHS.  Our current focus is on the development of biomedical research, which achieved high standards in both Universities in the last Research Excellence Framework (REF). In Hull, there is a particular emphasis on translational and patient-based biomedical research recently consolidated in the Institute for Clinical and Applied Health Research. Cardiovascular orientated research is the focus and links between metabolism, inflammation and atherothrombotic disease.
