Description :

We are looking for three motivated, organised and enthusiastic individuals with an interest in the applications of fundamental science to manufacturing.  We have three postdoctoral research positions on Photo-Electro, a £6.5M, 5 year EPSRC flagship Programme Grant research project, which is just starting at the University of Nottingham. The vision of the project is to combine continuous photochemistry, electrochemistry and thermal chemistry to transform how fine chemicals, agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals are manufactured in the UK. The persons appointed will join a multidisciplinary team of approximately 20-30 scientists working at the Universities of Nottingham, Bristol and Southampton in Chemistry and Engineering. The project is led by Professor Mike George and a team of 7 academics.

All three posts will involve lab-based research will be based in Nottingham but travel to Bristol, Southampton and Photo-Electro Stakeholders will be required.  The successful candidates will have a first degree in chemistry or chemical engineering and a related PhD and a track record of successful research and research leadership.  They will be computer literate with strong communications skills and a proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. They will be excited by variation rather than repetition and gain satisfaction from finding ways they can contribute to the success of Photo-Electro.  Specific skills needed are:

Posts 1 and 2: A strong background in organic chemistry or process chemistry; familiarity with NMR and related characterisation techniques.  Particularly beneficial would be experience in one or more areas of photochemistry, electrosynthesis and/or flow chemistry.

Post 3:  A strong background in the application of spectroscopic techniques (particularly vibrational spectroscopy), process analytics and reaction monitoring; familiariry with Matlab, LabView and similar software would be an advantage.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Professor Mike George (mike.george@nottingham.ac.uk).

These are 2 year fixed term appointments and are available to start immediately.
