Description :

This is a challenging opportunity for a network engineering expert to work at a leading University.  The campus provides an excellent work environment, with a wide range of on-site amenities, including world-class sporting facilities, and is surrounded by beautiful countryside, overlooking the city of Bath, one of the most elegant and vibrant cities in the country,

The Role

Would you accept a challenge to become part of a team of systems and network architects, engineers and designers to ensure the university network infrastructure provides the highest quality experience for all its members while having the ability to change and keep pace with new services and technologies?

Do you appreciate the world in which we inhabit is becoming connected and networked in ways previously hard to imagine and the associated challenges this brings to a service oriented environment?

Can you deal with the fact that the scale and scope of these developments are showing no sign of decelerating and the sheer technical complexity of the underlying infrastructure means you will work in an environment where you will never stop learning and developing?

Our community increasingly expects a seamless IT environment that facilitates a next generation network delivered in a reliable and secure manner.  This ubiquitous IT environment must accommodate the needs for truly mobile computing, be always available and be completely reliable & resilient.  Furthermore, it is essential that agility is inherently designed to provide the flexibility and extensibility that can accommodate the future generation of networking services technologies our consumers demand.

As a part the Computing Services department, you will work within the network design team to deliver and support a secure and resilient network infrastructure, tailored for the University's core connectivity needs.

Your goals will include planning and delivering the next generation network infrastructure necessary to provide IT services to suit new builds, natural expansion, upgrades and changes to the network infrastructure of the university.  You will manage procedures and documentation for network support and make a significant contribution to the investigation, diagnosis and resolution of network oriented problems.

The successful candidate will be technically driven, an assured communicator and will work well in a team and individually. They will be experienced in network planning, have a broad and deep knowledge of IPv4 and IPv6 networking technologies, routing and switching, automation and scripting, virtualisation, Linux/Unix systems and will have general associated technical experience to back this up.
