Description :

The Department of English Literature and Creative Writing is seeking to appoint a 12 month part-time Research Associate to work on the AHRC Project “Creating a Chronotopic Ground for the Mapping of Literary Texts”. This post is funded by the AHRC as part of a major 3 year research project into literary mapping.

The project team consists of Sally Bushell, 1 full-time Research Associate and 1 part-time Research Associate whom you will also be assisting as well as six Cis linked to the project from other UK institutions.  Your primary role will be to support the Principal Investigator (PI) Sally Bushell for the first year of the project whilst she is also Head of Department by undertaking administration on the project (arranging meetings; Skype panels; visits from Cis, end of year symposia, international conference attendances etc.). You will also be required to work alongside and under the principal RA James Butler entering texts into XML for the database and will take responsibility for creating a major website for Literary Mapping.

You should have a degree in English Literature and experience of using Microsoft Office software. Experience of creating websites and working with XML would be an advantage and a willingness to learn such skills is essential.

Your role on the project is supporting others rather than advancing your own research.  However, there is certainly the possibility of being involved at an intellectual level should this be appropriate.

This is a part-time post for 12 hours per week (0.32 fte) for a fixed term of one year. Ideally you would work 4 hours a day, 3 days a week, although arrangement of these hours is negotiable.Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Sally Bushell s.bushell@lancaster.ac.uk.
