You will join a strong school-wide team delivering successful, professionally accredited, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Engineering through Construction to Surveying, Planning and Real Estate in a well-equipped, purpose-built, facility. We are a practice-based school, making our teaching and research relevant to the evolving world around us.  We seek an individual capable of supporting teaching and undertaking research aligned to the research activities of the school that cut across engineering and the built environment.  You will be responsible for:  Helping to maintain our laboratories to the highest standards Demonstrating the use of equipment and resources Supporting and supervising staff & students to undertake practice-based work in a safe manner In liaison with H&S advisors, ensure compliance with safety related procedures / processes With guidance, collect and interpret data in support ongoing research projects.  You should have: Demonstrable experience in at least one of these area: workshop or laboratory environment with relevant knowledge such as CNC machining, fabrication processes, analytical measurements & techniques, forexample gas chromatography, ICP, spectrophotometry, calorimetry etc., engine performance or emerging technologies such as biofuels.  Relevant professional and technical qualifications, e.g. at least BTEC HND with experience. Knowledge of safe working practices, materials and equipment used in a range of workshops, e.g. COSHH.  This includeshandling solid and liquid wastes from both industrial and / or environmental sources. This involves excellent people skills and be prepared to encourage and guide users with a wide range of competencies. Willingness to ensure all equipment / resources are ready, available to use and safe at all times (including the purchase of consumables, arranging maintenance) Ability to instruct and demonstrate analytical techniques to staff and students Knowledge of and basic skills (at least to fault finding level) in IT relevant to the laboratory and a strong desire to increase knowledge of equipment including attending training courses where relevant Good ‘customer’ handling skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships based upon excellent communication skills and experience of successfully working as part of a teamfacilitating them to succeed in a workshop / laboratory environment.  Applicants should apply by completing their online application, uploading a full CV and a covering letter highlighting their motivation for working with BCU, their areas of expertise and their ambitions.please ensure emphasising any relevant experience and / or outputs, e.g. successful projects.  Shortlisted candidates will be expected to undertake a short practical exercise during the interview process.  Please contact the Head of School, Professor Gareth Neighbour (gareth.neighbour@bcu.ac.uk) for further information.
