The international Conference of Resistant Family: Moral Challenges in the Transforming World

Throughout the last century, due to the waves of development, globalization, modernization, postmodernism and the structural transformations brought about, the institution of family faced challenges in fulfilling its moral role. But, among those, globalization reveals the current reality of the world more than the others, the most significant aspect of which should be sought in the realm of culture, undoubtedly. Being associated with the collapse or erosion of cultural boundaries and rapid developments in the systems of knowledge, values and behaviors, the process of globalization of culture came into realization thanks to the emergence of modern technologies in communication as well as the economic developments, especially in the industries of leisure and body, and destabilized the moral foundations with the dominance of relativism and moral liberalism.

In such an environment in which neoliberalism acts as the invading culture in the position of power on one side, and religion and family as the guardians of moral values in the position of resistance on the other side, family is unable to reproduce the moral and religious values easily and simply as in the past.

However, there are numerous opportunities in the current threatening environment. For example, the dominance of the invading culture increases the motivation of resistance in local and regional cultures and paves the way for more awareness about the reality of it. Furthermore, the divine religions, especially Islam, portray the theology of hope, emphasizing the key themes of expectation of resolution and endurance on the path, to encourage the human beings to be more dynamic and active in the hope of a better future.

The important point is that families, institutions, thinkers, activists and governments, should first come to a correct and deep understanding of the current situation; second, change the patterns of education, activism, and production of scientific literature, governance and policy making; and third, apply the patterns of the powerful position of family in the past in order to regenerate new patterns appropriate with the position of resistance. In this way they are able to take the leadership of active, scientific and educational policy making in the current threatening environment, so that they can create new advantages and take advantage of the globalized environment to expand moral values through active resistance.

Based on all of the above, the synergy of thinkers and elites who are committed to moral values seems necessary in order to provide ideas, plans, strategies and solutions in order to enable the family to protect the values and create new situations for the expansion of moral values in the current threatening situation of resistance. As a result, the audience of these ideas and strategies are family, institutions influencing it, elite society and the government.
