This workshop explores how spectroscopy can be used to study cosmic objects, from stars in the Milky Way to distant galaxies. Participants will learn how spectra reveal information about the composition, distance, and physical processes of astronomical sources, as well as how to obtain and analyze spectroscopic data with modern instruments. The program features lectures by experts from the University of Leiden, the University of Latvia, and invited speakers from around the world, as well as practical sessions and hands-on projects using data from the Baldone Schmidt telescope and other observatories. The workshop combines theory with real observations, offering participants the chance to work on projects across different astrophysical themes and present their results.
