Webinar on An Ethical Use of Electronics, EHR, and e-Anything

Overview: Essentially, covering in 90 minutes the basics of E everything that applies to your clinical work. We will give you the questions to ask your IT people, because you should not implicitly trust them, because the law will hold you accountable more than them. We will first cover the general principles of electronic compliances as laid forth in HIPAA. We will then discuss how this applies to your desktop/laptop/iPads and smart devices, other electronic equipment such as routers and modems. We also cover the use of email, secure mail and your EHR/EMR.

We will discuss the pros and cons of using the cloud for your data storage and EHR/EMR, i.e. knowing what a HIPAA compliant data center looks like. Principles in the use of encryption and passwords and other security principles will also be covered.

Joseph H McCoy is a licensed psychologist in the state of Texas. He has used electronic medical health records during his entire career. He has given many presentations on the ethical use of electronic health records and electronic devices for communicating with patients healthcare providers and managing PHI for over 10 years now. He is a generalist practitioner of clinical psychology and Serving in an underserved area of Texas and originally started his career in integrative practice with four family physicians who were already using electronic medical records.
