Organic World Congress

Once every three years, IFOAM Organics International organises the Organic World Congress OWC in a dferent country to achieve its vision of the global organic movement and also to provide a platform where organic stakeholders can share their kledge and expertise and establish valuable partnerships. The OWC is considered the leading event for the development of the organic sector worldwide. It is held to promote and celebrate the inevitable turning of global agriculture to organic farming methods and to measure progress. The last 18th edition of the Organic World Congress was organised in Istanbul, Turkey in October 2014. The event in India will be the 19th. Participants in this Congress will be mainly experienced organic farmers, experts in sustainable agriculture, scientists, specialists in organic marketing and trade. Main topics listed fall under the categories of biodiversity, soils, various ecological approaches to farming, marketing of organic produce, certication schemes. Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India is coorganiser of the event. The OWC is expected to be inaugurated by Indias Prime Minister. Main sessions will include discussions by scientists doing research in organic production; organic farmers who have important innovations to share; and a marketing track dealing exclusively with quality assurance guarantees including the Participatory Guarantee System PGS.
