An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Test Technician, Hydrogen to join the world-renowned Power Electronics, Machines and Control Institute (PEMC) at the University of Nottingham, where you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge technologies for power generation, marine, aerospace, and automotive applications. You will be involved in commissioning and supporting a new cryogenic test facility and delivering pioneer research programmes.

About the Role

The post holder will be part of a highly-skilled technical team supporting pioneering research, working with other technical and commercial staff to provide a professional testing service for research and commercial projects. This will involve the setup and operation of bespoke test stands for research and industrial support, which could include cryostats, fuel cells, thermal engines, electrical machines and powered electronic components in a new Hybrid Propulsion System facility.  The role will support the Senior Manufacturing Engineer and work alongside the PEMC Electrical Technicians and Mechanical Test Technician, Cryogenics.

The role holder will have the opportunity to make their mark joining the team at an early stage in the development of our state of the art hydrogen research facilities and will lead a role in the installation and commissioning of associated systems in the Hybrid Propulsion System facility located alongside the PEMC. It is expected that the hydrogen capability will develop, and the role holder will participate in integrating new capability within the existing building. 

The role requires the management of time, tasks across the portfolio of projects to deliver campaigns in a timely manner, leading and supporting in both electrical and mechanical installation, including calibration, certification and maintenance. 

About You 

You will be competent in mechanical systems installations, possibly gaining experience from completing a mechanical apprenticeship or from a previous relevant role. You will be self-motivated with the knowledge and experience to work independently, as well as  having good communication and team working skills to allow you to build effective working relationships both inside and outside of the university. The knowledge of and the ability to work within relevant regulations related to Health & Safety is essential. 

A good understanding of hydrogen safety and knowledge of both cryogenic and hydrogen systems is highly desirable as well as prior experience of mechanical and electrical test stand and operations. Further details on role profile.
