We are seeking a clinical academic to join our team as the Advanced Practice 2 / Year 5 Lead within the BMBS Clinical Medicine course. This pivotal role offers the unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the next generation of junior doctors during one of the most crucial periods of their education. You will make a significant leadership contribution providing academic oversight of the Advanced Practice 2 component of the current curriculum and Year 5 of the new curriculum (to be launched in September 2026).
The Advanced Practice 2 (AP2) covers 40 weeks of the curriculum and runs annually from late September to late May. It comprises a three week Preparation for Professional Practice block followed by four rotations in senior medicine, senior surgery and perioperative medicine, senior primary care and critical illness leading to a four-week period of revision and final examinations. This is followed by a twelve-week Preparation for Practice period, which includes a transition to practice week, a five-week professional development/elective period, and a five-week senior assistantship (SAST).
You will be the AP2 Lead for the current curriculum and become responsible for overseeing Year 5 in the new curriculum. Your role includes providing guidance and academic support to students in this final phase of their undergraduate training, helping them to prepare for their final exams and transition to practice. Working closely with the AP lead for Lincoln, you will be responsible for development and delivery of the AP2 curriculum in the Local Education Providers (LEPs) in Nottingham and Derby Hubs and will work closely with the AP2 academic attachment leads and teaching leads in each LEP. You will also be the SAST lead and academic co-lead for the UK Foundation Programme for our students. Your role will be similar in the new curriculum covering Year 5 of the course.
You will have full a GMC Registration with a licence to practice, be entered on the GMC Specialist Register/General Practitioner Register, with a proven track record of organisation and leadership of teaching of medical undergraduates or postgraduates.
