This post is fixed term for 5 months

Applications are invited for the above post in the School of Engineering & Computer Science, Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Hull, UK.

The person to be appointed will work on an EPSRC project “Development of efficient and scalable ultrasound-assisted solidification technologies for manufacturing advanced metallic alloys (Ultra-Cast)” in close collaboration with Brunel University and Diamond Light Source, the UK national Synchrotron X-ray facility.

Candidates should have already obtained a PhD or almost finish their PhD in the field of materials, chemistry, engineering, physics or other related disciplines. Knowledge and/or experience on the interactions of external physical fields (ultrasonic waves or magnetic fields) with materials in liquid or semi-solid states are essential. Candidates with modelling of ultrasound cavitations or computational fluid dynamic simulation experience are particularly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will need to analyse the high speed X-ray images and tomography data collected very recently from a number of synchrotron X-ray beamlines, and also use numerical modelling method to study the dynamics of ultrasound bubbles in liquid and semisolid metals.

The candidate needs to have a good track record on generating journal publications and strong drive to work independently and effectively.

The post is for a fixed-term of 5 months, and made available from the 1st August 2017 or as soon as possible there after.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Jiawei Mi, tel: 01482 465670 or email: j.mi@hull.ac.uk.

Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
