تفاصيل :

Applications are invited for the above post based at The Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre (CBTRC; www.cbtrc.org) in the Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham. The CBTRC is committed to accelerating progress through research, so that more children survive brain tumours and have a better quality of life.

Children’s brain tumours account for 20% of childhood cancers; 450 - 500 new cases are diagnosed every year in the UK. They are the major cause of death from cancer in childhood. Furthermore, damage to the developing child’s brain means that two thirds of those cured will be disabled for the rest of their lives.

The CBTRC was set up to address these issues and brings together multidisciplinary researchers from clinical, translational and basic science arenas, all dedicated to increasing our understanding of the biological nature of childhood brain tumours and using this knowledge to improve the health outcomes for the child.

The post holder will be working on a qualitative study within a Quality of Life Awards grant entitled ‘The PROMOTE Study: Patient Reported Outcome Measures Online To Enhance Communication and Quality of Life after childhood brain tumour’.  The post holder will primarily be responsible for qualitative data collection, interviewing patients, parents and clinicians, facilitating focus groups, and analysis of data.  This research is funded by the Brain Tumour Charity.

You will be educated to degree level and must have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification and experience in qualitative research.  You will possess excellent organisational and communication skills.  Previous experience of working on paediatric oncology studies or equivalent paediatric diseases in a hospital setting within the NHS is desirable.  Previous experience of qualitative research in particular interviewing and/or facilitating focus groups is essential.  Excellent word processing, communication skills, and a good eye for detail are essential requirements.

This post will be offered on a part-time, fixed term contract for a period of 3 years.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor (Honorary Consultant) of Paediatric Oncology David.walker@nottingham.ac.uk 0115 82 30632. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
