Applications are invited for the academic post of Assistant Professor in Electronic and Optical Engineering at the University of Nottingham. The post has been created to support and grow research activities in optical instrumentation, imaging or laser ultrasound techniques. We are seeking an exceptional candidate who aspires to be an international leader in one of these research areas.

Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent and post-doctoral academic research experience in a field related to electronics or optical engineering. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in one or more of the following areas: spatially resolved acoustic spectroscopy for microstructural imaging; picosecond ultrasonic techniques for biological imaging; instrumentation for imaging and measurement with surface acoustic and surface EM waves or the application of optical fibre sensing techniques in the biomedical engineering sector.

It is also essential that the candidate has proven experience in research leadership and had a proven track record in project management. The successful candidate will also contribute to the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, which will include lectures, tutorials and the supervision of project work.

The person appointed will be expected to apply for and obtain external funding to enable the development of new and independent research. Good communication and organisation skills are also required.
