In animals, white fat is the major store of fat soluble compounds, such as drugs, pollutants and vitamin D, the latter key in blood calcium level regulation. However, the mechanisms that underlie release of these compounds are unknown. Applications are invited to the above role to investigate the physiological mechanisms that control the release of these lipophilic substances, especially vitamin D, from the lipid droplet of white fat adipocytes.   In particular the possibility of a novel role for voltage-gated calcium influx to modulate lipophile release will be explored. The project will utilize a combination of tissue culture, molecular biology, single cell imaging, electrophysiological and electrochemical recording techniques.

The role holder will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to develop research methods and extend their research portfolio.

Candidates must hold a PhD or be near to completion of or equivalent in a relevant area, evidence of sufficient breadth or depth of research methodologies and techniques to work in research area supported and some practical experience of applying the specialist skills approaches and techniques required for the role.

This full-time fixed-term post is available from 2 October 2017, however must start by no later than 2 March 2018 and is for a period of three years.
