Technology Transfer Manager (Physical Sciences) (045118)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technology Transfer Manager (Physical Sciences) to join the very successful Technology Transfer team at the University of Surrey.

You will haveresponsibility for the commercialisation of University intellectual property, producing income from licensing, from equity stakes in spin-out companies, and from associated research contracts.  The University will also expect you to be familiar with the Impact Agenda and create opportunities for maximising the impact of your portfolio. Although the project portfolio will be strongly oriented towards physical sciences, you will also be expected to be able to handle projects from any research discipline across the University. 

In order to balance the team’s specialist skills, the successful applicant will hold a degree in a physical science or engineering discipline or have substantial vocational and relevant management experience, demonstrating management ability in an appropriate professional or specialist area, and success in similar or related roles, supported by evidence of significant appropriate knowledge.  A business background with an associated network of contacts, the ability to bridge successfully between academe and business and to find markets for technologies are more important than a strong academic focus.  You will have a sound knowledge of patenting, licence deal structures and the spin-out process.

Applicants must be prepared to travel throughout the UK and occasionally internationally and work outside normal hours when required.
