تفاصيل :

The Physics Department at Lancaster University and the Cockcroft Institute for Accelerator Science is seeking to appoint a Research Associate to work on dielectric laser and terahertz driven particle acceleration. Laser and THz methods of particle acceleration are attractive for femtosecond control of particle beams, for applications such as ultrafast electron diffraction and particle-driven light-sources. In high-energy accelerators, laser acceleration concepts have the potential to surpass fundamental limits of conventional accelerators and to shrink multi-km accelerators by orders of magnitude.

We seek a Research Associate to undertake experimental research in particle acceleration with ultrafast laser generated high-field THz pulses. You will principally work on the manipulation and acceleration of 100keV photo-electrons; you will also contribute to experiments on relativistic beam novel acceleration experiments on the CLARA particle accelerator test facility. You will join and collaborate with a team of researchers in the Cockcroft Institute, based at STFC Daresbury National laboratory.

You will have experience in experimental ultrafast laser physics, and in non-linear optical terahertz generation. Experience in the field of novel particle acceleration, or in working with advanced particle accelerators is also highly desirable. You must have or be about to complete a PhD in Physic.s and have a record of publication in leading research journals.

This is a fixed term, full-time appointment for 24 months.

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Steven Jamison, s.jamison@lancaster.ac.uk

We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.
