Senior Lectureship in Intelligent & Autonomous Systems (for advanced manufacturing) (A2422)

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding academic in Intelligent and Autonomous Systems (equivalent to Associate Professor) who wishes to build their career at School of Computing & Communications at Lancaster.  The field of Intelligent and Robotic/Autonomous Systems is becoming increasingly important as an enabling technology in a wide range of domains including manufacturing, defence, security and health. This appointment reflects this growth and will be an excellent opportunity to engage in the future development of Lancaster Intelligent, Robotic and Autonomous systems (LIRA) (http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/lira) as a University’s cross-disciplinary research centre. Of particular significance to Lancaster is the role that Intelligent and Robotic/Autonomous Systems is likely to play in future advanced manufacturing and Industry 4.0 building upon the significant research capability in this area and the existing links with the industry.

The post requires a significant leadership in bringing together the relevant work in multiple departments, and in leveraging the very significant external funding opportunities.  The role holder will act as a bridge between the School of Computing and Communication Systems, the Engineering Department, Management School, the Data Science Institute, Faculty of Science and Technology and The Welding Institute which closely collaborates with Lancaster University.

We invite applications from senior researchers with a substantial and established international reputation in the areas that complement the existing areas of expertise, including (but not limited to) intelligent systems, decision making, computer vision, autonomous systems, robotics.  We will specifically seek candidates with a focus on IAS use in manufacturing and related areas as we believe this will deliver the maximum grant-earning potential. In particular, this focus will enable us to bridge the more theoretical aspects of machine learning and data science to the manufacturing and productivity agenda underpinning many current government initiatives.  Evidence to attract external grant income to support your research is essential. You should have a PhD in a relevant discipline, an outstanding publication record, a desire to be a research leader and provide high quality teaching.
