A research fellow is required to take a leading role in an ESRC GCRF research project on skills development in Africa. The project, entitled ‘VET Africa 4.0’.

The project consortium involves five universities: Nottingham (UK), Gulu and Kyambogo (Uganda) and Rhodes and Wits (South Africa). The entire project is co-ordinated from the University of Nottingham by Professor Simon McGrath, UNESCO Chair in International Education and Development. 

The Research Fellow will be a key member of the central project team and point of liaison between the three national teams as well as participating in the four national case study projects. They will be involved in general project management, case study design, analysis and communication. They will co-author project reports and academic publications, present in international conferences and communicate findings to policy, practitioner and community stakeholders. They will play a key role in ensuring that the project’s data management meets the highest standards.

Candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant social science discipline such as international education, development studies or development economics. They should also be able to work effectively with diverse and multi-national research teams, have experience of managing research data, and be skilled at reading and analysing research reports, papers, policy documents, etc., with speed and accuracy.

This position is available on a fixed term basis with an immediate start until 28 February 2021. Hours of work will be full-time (36.25 per week).
