تفاصيل :

This is a new role to develop thinking on and delivery of a large investment by the University in augmenting the teaching of new courses by web-based learning. The innovative project will draw on the latest learning technologies to re-imagine university teaching for the mid-21st century. Courses will be designed to put the student’s individual experience and requirements at the core of the programme, with material and guidance customised around them. This will require thinking that is creative and adventurous, and academic expertise that is not constrained by any one discipline, literary period, culture, or approach. We will be appointing in the broad field of World English Literatures.

Key areas of expertise for this position will be within the very broad area of world literatures in English, global Englishes as articulations of experience and culture, comparative literatures in English across the world and/or across time. You might take a genre-focused approach to different literatures, or a rhetorical approach, or a postcolonial perspective on any combinations of poetry, prose, drama and creative production and performance across the world. The project setup phase is intended to cover the first 5 years, during which time the person appointed will be expected to work primarily on the programme, with a small amount of conventional teaching. The post is permanent.

The person appointed will primarily undertake blue-sky thinking and course design for new programmes to be delivered by virtual and blended learning formats. Some teaching by co-presence will be available at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, within the School of English at Nottingham. The person appointed will also work with School colleagues at our campuses in Ningbo and Malaysia. The role holder will be expected to make a significant leadership impact both at the University and in their own research and teaching area in the scholarly community. They will take responsibility for the quality of the design of the Applied English programmes to maintain and augment the high teaching standards of the School. The role holder may also be required to serve as mentor, adviser, and reviewer of other colleagues, and contribute to the overall administration of the School.

Candidates should have a PhD (or equivalent) in any interdisciplinary or broad aspect of English studies. Evidence of the ability to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels on both present and virtual programmes is essential. A proven record of publishing and teaching in multiple or interdisciplinary or comparative areas is essential. An ability to teach and research across a broad range of topics is essential. Evidence of the ability to generate research grant income would also be an advantage.

This is a full-time, permanent post available from 1 March 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter based in the School of English, Trent Building, University Park, Nottingham.

Further information about the School is available at: http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/english

Short-listed candidates will be asked to provide items of research if available for consideration by the School.  The interview process will include a presentation of teaching style and philosophy, and a formal interview.
