We have fractional vacancies for the following qualified staff, totalling 1.5fte:

Specialist Study Skills Tutors for students with Specific Learning Differences (SpLD) AND/OR Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC); Specialist Mentors for students with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC)

Fixed-term Contracts (annually renewable)

Salary: £32,236 (with capacity to progress to £36,609 per annum) pro rata. 

We are looking to recruit qualified and experienced specialists to join our Disability and Neurodiversity Service team at the University of Surrey.

The function of this role is to provide regular one-to-one support for students with SpLD AND/OR ASC, enabling them to develop independent learning strategies. Applicants will have experience of working with students in a Higher Education setting.

While salary is paid evenly over the year, post-holders will typically undertake the role over 32 weeks of the year, inclusive of term-time and other periods of high demand (‘Term-time Plus’).

As per the DSA-QAG regulatory requirements, applications will only be considered for those with the required memberships/qualifications, as set out below.

Please indicate range of potential availability, e.g. 1 day per week minimum/2.5 days per week maximum.* Please also indicate days potentially available, e.g., Tuesdays, Thursday evenings, Saturdays. The ability to work evenings and/or weekends would be desirable.

DSA-QAG Membership/Qualification requirements

SpLD Tutors:

Professional membership of at least one of the following specialist organisations:

PATOSS (full or associate membership); BDA (full professional membership); ADSHE (professional membership); Dyslexia Guild (member, associate or fellow membership).

ASC Tutors:

The following qualifications:

A teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE) A degree AND comprehensive training in adult Autism which must include EITHER: All 5 NAS core Autism online training modules (Understanding Autism; Autism and Communication; Autism and Sensory Experience; Autism, Stress and Anxiety; Autism: Supporting families) or NAS tutor-led course ‘Understanding Autism’ OR ‘Introduction to Autism and the SPELL framework’ OR Other training, including at a HE institution, delivered by an appropriately qualified trainer (a qualified trainer from a recognised organisation/charity, or a trainer who can demonstrate a relevant qualification in Autism) OR Hold a PG Certificate in Autism / PG Certificate in Aspergers

ASC Mentors:

The following qualifications:

•    A degree AND comprehensive training in adult Autism which must include:

All 5 NAS core Autism online training modules (Understanding Autism; Autism and Communication; Autism and Sensory Experience; Autism, Stress and Anxiety; Autism: Supporting families) OR NAS tutor-led course ‘Understanding Autism’ OR ‘Introduction to Autism and the SPELL framework’ OR Other training, including at a HE institution, delivered by an appropriately qualified trainer (a qualified trainer from a recognised organisation/charity, or a trainer who can demonstrate a relevant qualification in autism) OR Hold a PG Certificate in Autism / PG Certificate in Aspergers.
