تفاصيل :

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Bath wishes to appoint an academic with internationally leading expertise in artificial intelligence.  The candidate’s main research interests will be in a core area of AI such as machine learning, reinforcement learning, natural language processing or AI for robotics, possibly with engagement in related areas such as human-computer interaction or visual computing.

Research in the Department is organised in four groups: Artificial Intelligence; Human-Computer Interaction; Mathematical Foundations; and Visual Computing.

The Artificial Intelligence group is a key strength of the department, is highly regarded internationally and very successful in research publication and grant capture. The nature of our research and our strong industry connections mean that the group has clear routes to impact.  The group also provides research-led undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

You will reinforce and extend our core strengths and create effective collaborations with colleagues across the Department’s research groups and beyond. Across the University, there are exciting opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations. For example, the new UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Accountable, Responsible and Transparent AI (ART-AI) brings together researchers and PhD students across computer science, engineering and social sciences.

Beyond the University, you will be expected to build on our national and international collaborations with both academia and industry. Current collaborators include DeepMind, Google AI, Tsinghua, Zhejiang, São Paulo, the Office for National Statistics, the NHS, and many others across sectors including autonomous systems, entertainment, elite sport, and healthcare technologies.

You are expected to hold a PhD and to have an international reputation for excellent publications in artificial intelligence, backed up by an excellent track record and outstanding potential to lead research projects, funding bids and teaching. You will be expected to carry out and supervise research in line with targets set by the Department and to obtain significant research funding from external sources. You will contribute to teaching and must have a continuing commitment to maintaining the University’s high standards in teaching and learning, with the ability to educate and inspire some of the brightest students in the country. You will also be expected to contribute to the administration, leadership and management of the Department’s activities commensurate with the level of the appointment.

The Department and the University are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment. We are working to improve the gender balance within the Department and particularly welcome applications from women.

For informal discussion about the roles, please contact Prof Eamonn O’Neill (E.ONeill@bath.ac.uk or +44 (0)1225 383216), however, please ensure that all applications are submitted via the University website.

NB: This is a “rolling advertisement”. Applications are welcome at any time and the timing of the selection process will be dependent on the applications received. The first round of shortlisting is scheduled for 20 May 2019.

Closing Date: 20 May 2019
Type: Education & Research
