تفاصيل :

You will work on optical signal processing techniques for fibre communication systems.

Be a part of the University of Southampton, an institution in the top one per cent of world universities and one of the UK’s Russell group research-intensive universities. We have an international reputation for research, teaching and enterprise activities. You will work in the world leading Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) and will have access to the world class facilities and dedicated researchers that this provides. The Telecommunications Systems Laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for experimentation in photonic systems and provides direct access to the UK’s National Dark Fibre Facility, a unique geographically-spread transmission facility dedicated to research, linking together four top British universities.

The project will develop practical nonlinear optical techniques for the processing of communication signals. Particular emphasis is placed on the application of optical phase conjugation to the mitigation of transmission impairments. The project will establish novel experimental configurations based on state-of-the-art photonic technologies.

To be successful, you must have a PhD in fibre optics or photonics and a detailed knowledge in optical fibre communication systems and non-linear optics with an emphasis on their applications in communications. Ideally, you will also have experience in characterising photonic components and optical system modelling.

You must also have proven skills in the critical evaluation and interpretation of data and of working as part of a collaborative research team.

* Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
