The Department for Health is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Sport, Exercise, and Health Psychology. We are looking for someone with an established research track record or emerging research potential in this area. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach primarily on the BSc Sport Management & Coaching undergraduate programme (e.g., topics such as motivation and sport performance, team cohesion, and sport and mental health) and to supervise undergraduate research projects.  Particular topics of research expertise may include the psychology of coaching and elite sport performance, leadership in sport organisations, mental health, and/or other topics related to sport, exercise, and/or health psychology. There are also opportunities to contribute to the mutli-disciplinary BSc Health & Exercise Science, according to areas of interest. Expertise in quantitative methods is desirable, but not essential.

Our Department provides excellent opportunities for academic teaching and research. We currently have over 60 core members of research and teaching staff, and 35 postgraduate students from across the disciplines.  Our strengths as a Department include the opportunity for interdisciplinary work, and we take a collaborative approach to research within the Department, with other Departments within the University of Bath, and external partners and stakeholders. The postholder would have the opportunity to be a part of the Department’s Physical Culture, Sport, and Health Research Group and its Centre for Motivation and Health Behaviour Change.

We teach across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes related to health, exercise and sport. The University of Bath was named Sports University of the Year 2018, and our Sport & Exercise Science programme is ranked 2nd by the Guardian and Complete University guide for 2019.

Our research is organised around three themes: Lifelong Health and Wellbeing, Improving Human Function, and a Fair and Vibrant Society. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework exercise (REF2014), we returned staff across three Units of Assessment, ranking 5th (Sport & Exercise Science) and 6th (Allied Health Professions), with ~90% of our outputs rated as world-leading or internationally excellent (i.e. 3-4*).

The Department for Health is dedicated to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for our staff and students. We hold a Bronze Athena SWAN award in recognition of our ongoing commitment to gender equality.

Initial enquiries should be directed to Dr Fiona Gillison (Head of Department for Health, Tel: +44 (0)1225 384387, email: f.b.gillison@bath.ac.uk) or Dr Brad Millington (Director of Studies, BSc Sport Management & Coaching, tel: +44(0)1225 384357, email: b.millington@bath.ac.uk).
