Student Support and Guidance Tutor (22.5 hours per week) (SO5227-19-291)

We are currently seeking two dedicated professionals to join our team of Student Support and Guidance Tutors (SSGTs). This role offers you the opportunity of making a genuine and tangible difference to the university and learning experience of our students.

SSGTs enhance student engagement and retention by providing non-judgmental, 1 on 1 help and support on a range of issues. As well as sign posting to a range of centralised services you will be comfortable providing emotional support to students and advising on academic processes. You will be responsible for promoting our service to staff and students, including representing the service during induction week and be a key link between the school and Student Operations and Support. As an SSGT, you will be expected to log student enquiries and interactions on the SID online database and produce year-end reports.

In order to be successful in this role you will have:

Substantial experience of working with post 16 students with complex issues.An ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with students and a range of staff in 1-1 and group situations.An honours degree or a relevant professional qualification or experience (e.g. teaching /counselling).A proven ability to work independently, manage time and prioritise effectively.

As a member of the SSGT team, the Student Wellbeing Team, in the Student Operations and Support Department, will manage you. The successful candidates will work with students in either the School of Education based at our Falmer Campus, or the School of Media at our Moulsecoomb Campus.

These posts are on a fixed-term basis for a period of 12 months.

The working hours will be over 3 days (provisionally Monday, Wednesday and Friday in School of Media 21.5 hours per week. or Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays in School of Education 22.5), but some flexibility may be required.
