Senior Research Computing Systems Engineer (1161919JF)

The University of Southampton has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Computing Systems Engineer to design, develop and support its high performance and data intensive computing services.

The University views high performance and data intensive computing systems as strategic enablers to its research mission and is one of the top supercomputing sites in the UK. Our latest multi-million-pound facility delivers petascale computational and data services alongside private cloud and multi-petabyte storage services to thousands of researchers in our community.

Combined with your conscientious and systematic approach, you will be given the opportunity to expand your expertise and knowledge into newly emerging areas. You will be challenged to develop and support new computational and data services, aligned to diverse, cutting-edge research programmes here at the University.

As a successful candidate, you will join the team responsible for the development and delivery of state of the art computational and data intensive services. You will be a proficient Linux systems administrator, and have significant experience of developing and delivering ICT services at scale. You will be comfortable in complex computing environments and have solid experience in leading on the design and delivery of major ICT services.

With a passion for developing creative solutions and the ability to work independently along with being an effective team player, you will have a solid understanding of High Performance and/or Cloud Computing environments and have experience of parallel file systems and/or large-scale storage systems. Big Data analytics and data visualisation skills will be a distinct advantage.
