تفاصيل :

CASCADE (Complex Autonomous Systems Configuration and Design Exploratory) is a large EPSRC funded programme grant. It is a partnership between the universities of Manchester, Cranfield Imperial and Bristol and is led by Southampton.

The goal of this project is to accelerate the use of advanced Aerial Robotics (drones) for civil and commercial applications.

A key part of the project will be to develop a tool that will help policy makers design the future airspace rules and procedures required to operate an Unmanned Traffic Management network.

SEEDPOD (Simulation Environment for the Evaluation of Drone Policies and Operational Deployment) is an initiative within the CASCADE project to objectively analyse rules, policies and concepts of operations for drone usage in urban and other regions.

We are seeking a research software engineer to lead the development of this simulation environment and for which the requirements are currently being evolved by the CASCADE team.

There will also be opportunities to lead an international collaboration with the Linkoping University in Sweden.

The successful applicant will hold a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Computer Science. Ideally you will be an experienced developer who has expertise in a number of relevant areas including some of the following: Discrete Event and Agent Based Simulation, Geographical Information Systems, Web based and cloud-based systems, Flight and Airspace Simulation, computer games and high speed/real-time/high resolution graphics and animation.

You will be joining a large team of researchers distributed across the five universities. The post will be based at Southampton’s  Innovation Campus but will involve close working with all five of the CASCADE universities. We expect each university to contribute data and tools to the SEEDPOD initiative under your guidance. The initial priority will be to develop a software framework to allow the CASCADE community to contribute to SEEDPOD and create open modular, interoperable standards.

Please refer to https://cascadeuav.com/seedpod/ for the emerging SEEDPOD specification explaining the goals and objectives of this initiative.

The post is, initially, a fixed term position for 3 years.

Application procedure:

You should submit your completed online application form at https://jobs.soton.ac.uk. The vacancy will close at midnight on the closing date as shown above.
