Our School of Engineering and the Built Environment is a thriving and diverse academic community, with a strong track record of delivering excellent education at undergraduate, taught postgraduate and research postgraduate levels. Our location on our city centre campus in Birmingham’s Eastside, the city’s knowledge quarter, places us firmly at the heart of the city and close to the many institutions and social constituencies with whom we work closely. We are passionate about our teaching and put students firmly at the heart of all our activities. We embrace a practice-led, knowledge-based approach to our teaching, which is research informed.

We are looking for someone with a strong track record as a change orientated leader, someone who really cares about the chances and opportunities for our students and the important role our academics and support staff play in their lives. You may be in higher education or industry, but you must be an excellent strategic leader and capable of working with people to craft a compelling vision as we embark on the 2020s. Institutionally we currently have TEF Silver, are aiming for Gold at subject level, and we continue to improve across key performance areas, with, for example, 97% of our graduates moving into work or further study within six months. REF matters too, and we have built upon the relative success of the last REF to create a much more vibrant and extensive research culture and environment. We now want someone to join us as Head of School, to ensure that we have a fit for the future curriculum through which we deliver outstanding teaching and learning to our students. You will also help us build upon the progress we have made towards both TEF and REF, with a real focus on further enhancing student attainment.

The role will be challenging, the sector is changing rapidly and Birmingham City is ideally placed to respond to those challenges, it will be your role to lead the School and help us to achieve our full potential.
