The Digital Economy is reshaping the world around us, but the very nature of this disruption to businesses, society and people demands interdisciplinary research to understand and shape how the Digital Economy matures.

The UKRI funded Horizon Digital Economy Research Institute centred at the University of Nottingham brings together an interdisciplinary team with expertise from a wide variety of backgrounds including computer science, engineering, psychology, sociology, business, social science and the arts.

The Transitional Assistant Professors in Computer Science, jointly funded for the first four years by Horizon and the School of Computer Science, provides a pathway to a permanent academic position for an early career researcher. In the first year the fellow is expected to concentrate on research within Horizon, with a minimal teaching load, while by the fourth year the workload is evenly distributed between research within Horizon and teaching in Computing. At the end of the four years, the fellow will become a permanent member of staff within the School of Computer Science.

An on-going research challenge for the Digital Economy is how to promote deep personalization whilst providing control and privacy to citizens, even as we develop new blended experiences that converge traditional and digital artefacts, services and media. The research will also link to the work of the recently awarded Trusted Autonomous Systems Hub (https://www.tas.ac.uk) in which Nottingham is a partner.

We are particularly seeking one candidate with experience of cybersecurity, but both roles are open to computing candidates who can show how their research fits with the Horizon research agenda and how their skills complement the existing research groups within the School of Computer Science. Importantly, candidates must be keen to bring their skills and experience into the interdisciplinary team within Horizon addressing the overall socio-technical challenges of the future Digital Economy.

Further information about the Horizon and the School of Computer Science is available at: https://www.horizon.ac.uk, https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/cs/

There are two positions available, both will be offered on a full time permanent contract. The hours of work are 36.25 per week. Job share arrangements may be considered.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Lynn Rees via email lynn.rees@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
