تفاصيل :

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Research Associate/Fellow to join the Condensed Matter Theory Group in undertaking exciting research projects in broad areas of classical and quantum non-equilibrium physics at the University of Nottingham. The successful candidate will work with Dr Kay Brandner on topics in statistical physics with special emphasis on stochastic and quantum thermodynamics. As a key topic, this post involves developing and performing numerical simulations and/or analytical calculations to explore the emergence of collective phenomena in driven many-body systems and their potential applications for new types of small-scale thermal devices.

The main responsibilities of the post include taking a leading role in research projects within the areas described above, contributing to the dissemination of research results in high-impact journals and via presentations at national/international conferences as well as interacting independently with both internal and external collaborators.

The successful candidate must hold a PhD (or near completion) in theoretical condensed matter physics or a closely related subject and must have a proven research track record in this area. They will have a solid background knowledge in statistical mechanics and expertise in the analytical and/or numerical treatment of many-body and/or mesoscopic systems. They will command excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clarity on complex information, and have the ability to independently develop and apply new research approaches, models and methods. A background in stochastic and/or quantum thermodynamics and experience with high-level programming languages are desirable but not required.

This role is available on a fixed term basis until 31st October 2022. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours).Job share arrangements may be considered.

Informal enquiries may be addressed Dr Kay Brandner (email: kay.brandner@nottingham.ac.uk.com). Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
