Responding to student diversity in schools: the use of Inclusive Inquiry

A fully funded studentship awarded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership (SCDTP) commencing in 2021/22 Academic Year.

This project offers an exciting opportunity for a PhD student who wishes to be involved in research that makes a direct impact in the field, as well as generating theoretical understandings around notions of dialogue and promoting inclusion. The candidate will be required to work closely with one primary school, using ethnographic approaches, to study closely the implementation of Inclusive Inquiry and the types of dialogues that it generates. Inclusive Inquiry, involves children that are seen as ‘hard to reach’ trained and become researchers that collect and analyse their classmates’ views, in order to design collaboratively with their teachers inclusive lessons.

Supervisory Team:

Prof Kiki Messiou, Southampton Education School, k.messiou@soton.ac.uk Dr Andri Christodoulou, Southampton Education School, a.christodoulou@soton.ac.uk

Skills Required

The student would need to have strong interpersonal skills since they will be attached in a school and work collaboratively with teachers and children. A good understanding and relevant experience of how schools operate would be preferable.
