Lecturer in Games Art and Design (AE3115-21-175)

Are you a practice-focused creative with a professional background in console-based games art, with an emphasis on character modelling and environmental design? If you are we would love to hear from you.

This role focuses on students on our BA (Hons) Games Art and Design course, but duties may also overlap with provision for BA (Hons) in Design for Digital Media and Animation who share some modules, so you should have a willingness to engage with students from those backgrounds too. 

Knowledge of current trends in games scholarship, as well as within the creative industries is essential, along with experience working in the creative or professional industry. 

A background in undergraduate teaching and practice-led research is required, as are the skills to work flexibly within a team and to effectively time manage and meet pressing deadlines.

Core elements of the role include:

To add to and expand the student-focused teaching expertise in the areas of digital games art and design.To contribute to teaching on a range of theory and practice modules within the BA Games Art and Design programme, (which may include) Design Principles, Sequence and Narrative, 2D Animation Principles, 2D into 3D Animation, Virtual Design Studio, Collaboration and Context, Context and Consolidation.To translate key skills and knowledge of industry practice to a diverse student cohort.To foster new relationships with commercial and cultural institutions that will enhance student opportunities.Working knowledge of relevant technology and packages such as Unreal, Unity, Blender and Maya would be an advantage. To foster organisational skills around course management and curriculum delivery, and to nurture creativity and artistic flair across our student community.To inspire and drive the creative vision of the course and the team.To survey, maintain and support all academic processes.To conduct and develop own research and practice.

You will be based at our campus at Edward Street in the city centre, a hub for the University’s creative courses, ground-breaking exhibitions and international research.
