An exciting opportunity for a Research Associate has arisen to work in the Centre for Climate Change & Social Transformations (CAST) to deliver its mission of helping people create the transformation required to tackle climate change.

About the role

CAST is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to develop and translate our research into real-world impact, and ultimately help tackle the climate crisis. Specifically, this 12-month position will involve co-development and co-delivery of a programme of residential engagement and behaviour change to help achieve Cornwall Council’s goals of carbon neutrality by 2030 and to be the first region in the UK to become net zero. Achieving these ambitious goals in a way that is fair and effective requires all residents and stakeholders in Cornwall to be fully engaged in the net zero transformation. The project will be co-led by CAST and Cornwall Council, thus ensuring the work delivers impact directly to research users. It will also build the Council’s own capacity to develop and evaluate behavioural interventions beyond the end of the project; and will generate transferable insights for use by other local authorities and communities in achieving their net zero goals.

The Research Associate will work directly with Cornwall Council to translate CAST’s behaviour change and engagement expertise into local policy action, by co-developing and evaluating interventions to change residents’ behaviour to cut emissions. In addition, the Associate will deliver training and engagement with Council staff to help build capacity in residential engagement, behaviour change, and evaluation.

This role is offered on full time (36.5 hours per week) fixed term basis of 12 months.
