تفاصيل :

Guildford School of Acting at the University of Surrey is one of the most highly regarded conservatoires in the UK, with a vibrant community of performers, performance makers, creative practitioners and technicians graduating from our wide variety of programmes each year.  As well as providing professional training and study at undergraduate and postgraduate level, GSA also runs a Junior Conservatoire, a Saturday School and a number of other short courses, as well as a full programme of public productions and events.

We are seeking an experienced individual to take up the post of Workshop Supervisor in the production team, within the Operations and Events Department at GSA.

The Workshop Supervisor provides technical expertise and support for the delivery of production designs and their realisation.  One of the key elements of this post is the support of our production students across two courses.  This includes the application and practice of appropriate scenic construction industry processes and procedures.   Providing an excellent student experience is central to all we do.  This role can also include teaching support or skills delivery depending on the candidate’s knowledge base.

The successful candidate ideally will have experience in a leadership or supervisory role in a workshop environment as well as onsite build experience for theatre or live events.   Additionally, working knowledge of Conservatoire or other Higher Education settings is beneficial.

You will be an experienced scenic construction professional with good administrative, pastoral and inter-personal skills and knowledge of current practices and techniques in professional theatre and entertainment production.

You will be well organised, able to meet deadlines and manage your own workload, taking responsibility for supervising, demonstrating and mentoring students and freelance staff, managing and repairing equipment and liaising with the full production team.

You will have up-to-date knowledge of Health & Safety and a commitment to promoting safe working and inclusive practices.

As a new colleague at GSA you will join a thriving HE theatre community, working with excellent colleagues and students.  At GSA and the University of Surrey, we are committed to working together to create an inclusive environment that offers equitable opportunities for all, pursuing our vision to be a leading global University.  We place great value on diversity and welcome applicants from all backgrounds.  We are seeking to increase the diversity within our community, and would particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups, such as people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups, people with disabilities and those identifying as non-binary or trans.  Appointments will be made on merit.

For an informal discussion about this post, please contact Sheryl-Lynne Valensky, Senior Production Supervisor at s.valensky@surrey.ac.uk
