Overview:

Professional Coaching is defined by the International Coach Federation as: Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential, which is particularly important in today's uncertain and complex environment. Coaches honor the client as the expert in his or her life and work and believe every client is creative, resourceful and whole.

Standing on this foundation, the coach's responsibility is to:

  • Discover, clarify, and align with what the client wants to achieve
  • Encourage client self-discovery
  • Elicit client-generated solutions and strategies
  • Hold the client responsible and accountable

This process helps clients dramatically improve their outlook on work and life, while improving their leadership skills and unlocking their potential.

Why should you attend: Who Will Lead Your Company in Five Years? What About Next Year?

Baby Boomers are retiring, GenY employees are inclined to change companies every few years, and, GenX leaders are now at a premium. It is becoming more and more difficult to retain and develop current and future leaders. Although there are tools in the OD toolbox available to prepare emerging leaders for their next role and develop current leaders for advancement, the challenge is that most approaches are not customizable for the unique needs of each individual.

That's where coaching comes in. Coaching emerging and existing leaders has proven to be one of the most effective techniques organizations can utilize to improve leadership effectiveness. The International Coach Federation reports that coaching both maximizes potential (e.g. 70% improved work performance and 51% improved team effectiveness) and builds self-confidence (e.g. 72% improved communication skills). The vast majority of companies (86%) employing coaching reported that they at least made their investment back with 96% stating they would repeat the coaching process.

Not every organization can pay the fees that executive and leadership coaches charge. However, many HR professionals have the foundational skills to coach leaders themselves. With these base skills, focused training, and the right tools, an HR manager can become an internal coach for their organization's leaders. This program will introduce HR leaders to coaching techniques, engage them in practicing these new skills, and provide tools that they can use to coach their organizational leaders.

Areas Covered in the Session:

  • Coaching skills in action- how to coach inside an organization
    • Framework for the coaching session (components of a session)
    • Best practices to effectively building trust with the client
    • The first session - where to begin?
    • Using powerful coaching questions (includes sample questions)
    • How to handle difficult clients (those who don't complete "homework" or miss sessions)
    • When is coaching done? Measuring coaching effectiveness
    • Closing out a client

Who Will Benefit:

  • HR Leaders (Senior Managers, Directors)
  • OD Professionals
  • Other Leaders who want to coach
