Het Federaal Agentschap voor Nucleaire Controle (FANC) heeft een Technisch Reglement ontworpen die de opleidingsvoorwaarden voor RPOs beschrijft, waarin men een onderscheid maakt tussen verschillende klasses van installaties en het gebruik van toestellen die ioniserende straling voortbrengen vs het gebruik van radioactieve bronnen. Deze opleidingsvoorwaarden omvatten een basisopleiding, een aanvullende opleiding en een praktische opleiding die allen dienen goedgekeurd te worden door de deskundige in stralingsbescherming (Radiation Protection Expert – RPE) verbonden aan de inrichting.
