Description :
For applications in networks of robots and unmanned aerial vehicles, reliable coordination is essential. Such systems are particularly vulnerable to jamming and eavesdropping, thus endangering security and stability of communication. At the same time, the strict latency and security requirements can no longer be satisfied with classical cryptographic protocols, especially with regard to future threats due to quantum computers. Information theory provides a promising approach to these challenges as it enables security which is independent of the adversary’s computing power. In this PhD position, you will analyze the task of sensing and coordination on an information-theoretic basis with the ultimate goal of implementing a resilient sensing and coordination protocol in the ACES Lab provided by the Institute of Theoretical Information Technology. The position is part of a larger project shared with TU Dresden which aims at designing, analyzing and implementing resilient communication systems.
