We invite applications for the post of Lecturer A in Music, starting October 2018. 

We seek an applicant who specializes in popular music as both scholar and performer.  This may include interests in the use and application of music technologies.

You will contribute to the evolution and development of the Music undergraduate degree course, and help the University to continue as a leading centre of excellence in Music.

The successful applicant will have the potential to develop and sustain research activities, with a clear vision of how their research will progress.  They will be encouraged to develop their own research profile and to produce high-quality research outputsthat may include musical compositions, installations, exhibitions, performances, journal articles and/or books.

You will contribute teaching to the Music, Creative Music Technology, and Music and Sound Recording (Tonmeister) undergraduate programmes, in areas of the curriculum related to popular music.  There may be the potential to contribute to other scholarly fields as appropriate.  You will also lead and support performance-based modules, supervise postgraduate research students, and carry out an administrative role as determined by the Head of Department. 

The Music programme has a healthy cohort of high-quality students that sustains a highly collegiate environment between staff and students.

The Department of Music and Media (DMM) has programmes in music, creative music technology, film and video production engineering, digital media arts and music and sound recording.  Research centres include the International Guitar Research Centre, the Digital World Research Centre and the Institute of Sound Recording (IoSR) and the Centre for Emergent Media.  DMM researchers also collaborate with research groups in other faculties of the University, e.g. IoSR is closely allied with the Centre for Vision and Speech Signal Processing (CVSSP) in the faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences.
