Applications are invited to the above role to act as a focal point and coordinator for all Health and Safety related topics and concerns whilst providing accurate and practical Health and Safety assistance to all staff, students and visitors. It will support the School in ensuring processes fully meet and implement University policy and requirements.

The role involves supporting the Head of School and School Space, Infrastructure, Facilities & Safety Manager across the different disciplines and locations, to co-ordinate, monitor and promote all Health and Safety activities. The role will also support the Bio-Safety Officer, School academics, other staff and students in understanding the policies and to monitor / audit areas to ensure compliance. The role holder will assist in developing & promoting an efficient, effective safety culture in the School of Life Sciences and will be the primary point of contact for the University H&S Office. 

Candidates must hold a minimum HNC / HND or equivalent, plus work experience in an H&S role or have a proven track record with extensive work experience in a relevant H&S role as well as holding a NEBOSH Certificate.

Candidates should have significant and proven people and time management experience, with the ability to audit and implement Health and Safety policies in biomedical research and teaching laboratory environments. 

Substantial experience regarding the implementation of Health and Safety policies in a University, research laboratory and teaching environment are essential, including a detailed understanding of the effects of non-compliance on staff members and the University as a whole.

This position will be offered on a permanent contract. Hours of work will be full-time (36.25 per week). Job share arrangements may be considered.
